About Paramveer Chakra
Paramveer Chakra signifies the “wheel of ultimate bravery” that speaks about the courageous act of military personnel while combating the enemy. Paramveer Chakra is the highest military decoration for military personnel. This prestigious award is equivalent to the Ashoka Chakra award given to both men and women of any rank from the Army, Air Force, Navy, or reserve forces. All the members from the Paramveer Chakra Winner List receive Rs.3000 per month. Till today, a total of 21 Paramveer Chakra awards have been awarded to the soldiers, and 14 are awarded posthumously. The Paramveer Chakra award is given twice a year, on the date of Republic Day, 26th January, and on the 15th August, Independence Day.
Appearance of Paramveer Chakra award
The Paramveer Chakra is a circular bronze disk of 35 millimeters in diameter. There is the Indian National Emblem graphically represented by the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillars in the middle of the medal. The Indian National Emblem is surrounded by the four replicas of Indra’s Vajra (thunderbolt, weapon of Lord Indra). On the reverse side of the medal, “Param Vir Chakra” is written across the circumference. The medal is suspended from a deep pink ribbon that has horizontal lines from one end to the other.
